Beef And Bamboo Shoots Wok Stir Fry. The bamboo shoots are crunchy and delicious in a stir fry. Bamboo shoots are the edible sprouts of the bamboo plant. Bamboo shoots are only edible if they are cooked properly because they are bitter in taste. My video will show you how to make delicious bamboo shoots. Just follow my instructions and I will show you how to cook bamboo shoots. Recipe is below:
Beef And Bamboo Shoots Wok Stir Fry
1 medium bamboo shoot
4 to 5 oz. sliced beef
1 tsp. chopped ginger
1 tsp. chopped garlic
4 tbsp. cooking oil
1 cup sliced celery
1/2 cup sliced onions
1 cup sliced green pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 tbsp. dark soy sauce
1 tbsp. light soy sauce
1 tbsp. oyster flavoured sauce
Put a cut length wise on the bamboo shoot. Peel away several layers of the leaves until you reach the smooth center of the bamboo shoot. Cut off the bottom by 1/2 inch so the fresh root is exposed. Cut the rough skin at the large end of the bamboo shoot. Cut the bamboo shoot into 1/8 inch width slices.
Bring some water to a boil in a pot. Put 1 teaspoon of salt into the water. Put the bamboo slices into the pot and boil for 15 minutes. Boil longer for more tender bamboo shoots. Put bamboo shoots in a strainer and rinse with cold water.
Slice beef into thin slices. In this video I am using New York steak, which is also known as strip loin club steak. A nice cut of beef does not need marinating.
Cut the celery, onion and green pepper into small slices. Preheat a wok at medium heat. Add 3 tbsp. cooking oil to the wok. Then add the chopped ginger and chopped garlic to the oil in the wok. Stir fry for 20 seconds. Turn heat to high setting. Add the celery and onions and briefly stir fry. Push celery and onions to side. Put beef in wok and briefly stir fry. Add green peppers and bamboo shoots. Stir fry for 1 minute. Add salt, sesame oil, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce and finish stir fry. Enjoy!
