鄧麗君之歌第一集 Teresa Teng Song Album Number One, October, 1967 was Teresa Teng's first professional album. 該專輯是鄧麗君的第一張個人專輯。曲目同 鄧麗君精選歌曲; the song list is similar to her two other albums, Teresa Teng's Popular Songs, with the exception of 女兒圈 (Girl Circle) in this album as opposed to 幾時你回來 (When Will You Come Back, which was the early version of the famous何日君再來 "When Will You Return"). While considered her first album, it really should not have been, as she had published a much lesser known album of songs from various nations. Those were the songs in Mandarin and Mandarin with English using melodies of English songs. That album was published about two months prior to the official release of the currently uploaded "Teresa Teng Song Album Number One". Perhaps her manager/Teresa Teng Foundation felt that only Chinese songs should have been the foundation of her career and, in her early days, that was in fact the case.

姑娘十八一朵花 "An 18 Year Old Girl Is A Flower" was extremely popular in the 1960's. Several movies used it as the theme song in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

月夜相思 "Lovesickness On Moonlite Night" is for the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival in China and most countries in Asia, traditionally a day for families to get together and for loved ones to rekindle their kindred spirit while apart. Originally sung and recorded in Shanghai, China by 吳鶯音 either in 1946 or 1948. In the 1970’s, this song had a Cantonese version 明月千里寄相思 "Bright Moon Sends Lovesickness Over A Thousand Miles", in Hong Kong and was sung by 張德蘭, which made her famous.

On most Chinese festival occasions, especially those overseas, one song and dance is most performed. That song and dance is 鳳陽花鼓 "Feng Yang Flower Drum" (Folk Song of Anhui 安徽) Anhui Province was the birthplace of the first Emperor of the ruling Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644). During his reign, this central Chinese region was constantly flooded and government subsidies were often hampered by the corrupt officialdom. Poor artists were forced to perform this dance to make a living. The movements were made to imitate sparrows spreading wings, eating food, and skipping, and the lyrics were humorous. Originally performed by two sisters-in-law, later it evolved to having a female and a male in the dance using a drum and a cymbal. The Anhui Province is also famous for being the birthplace of Huangmei Opera or Yellow Plum Musicals (黄梅戲). Teresa Teng sings as both the male and the female.

桃花江 – “Peach Blossom River”, was composed in 1929 by黎錦暉 and sung by different entertainers in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s, in China. In 1956, the original score became the theme song for a movie bearing the same title. There was a revised version called 新桃花江 “New Peach Blossom River”. The “newness” of the song is from the late 1960 adaptation by Singapore entertainers 凌雲與櫻花 as 新桃花江 “New Peach Blossom River”. Teresa Teng performed both the older version, 桃花江 “Peach Blossom River” in the current upload (Teresa Teng Song Album Number 1), as well as the newer version, 新桃花江 “New Peach Blossom River” in 鄧麗君之歌第九集 ( Teresa Teng Song Album Number 9 - June, 1968).

The insertion of Teresa Teng holding a Republic of China flag is apolitical. My objective is to stop this video from being stolen and uploaded on the China mainland, as has been the case with many of my videos.

It is my honor to dedicate this video to cat001001, for her assistance in providing MP3's for songs that I don't have, since December 2007.
