Hu Guanbao can be regarded as the most cunning criminal in Taiwan's history of public security. Despite his obvious intelligence, why did he not choose a lawful path and eventually venture down the wrong road? In the past, he committed the shocking New Light Young Gang kidnapping case, which baffled the police for a while. During the final ransom delivery, Peng Xuefen, in order to ensure her husband's safety, directly called the then Director-General of the Police Administration, Zhuang Hengdai, requesting that the police not tail the kidnappers. While the police pretended to comply, they secretly sent a car after all, thinking they were discreet and undetectable. Little did they know that Hu Guanbao was fully aware of these actions. How did he manage such an astute feat?
Although the hostage was released unharmed, the fact that the kidnappers managed to escape with the ransom put tremendous pressure on the police. Fortunately, the police obtained a crucial fingerprint during the investigation. At the time, Peng Xuefen had given the kidnappers a mobile phone to communicate, and later, when they released Wu Dongliang, they handed him the same phone to inform him of his release. This led the police to capture a key fingerprint from the phone's battery, finally shedding light on the case.
Why did it turn out that after apprehending all the criminals, it exposed the bloodiest page in Taiwan's public security history? It turns out that Hu Guanbao was connected to all four major criminal cases at the time. Breaking through his guard was no easy task. Hu Guanbao held the record for the highest educational attainment among death row inmates in Taiwan's public security history. He was originally a student in the regular class at the Army Officer Academy and excelled academically, even being sent by the government to study at a military school in Virginia, USA. With such qualifications, why did he not put them to good use and instead end up on an irreversible path in life?
After being sentenced to death, Hu Guanbao seemed to have exhausted all his efforts to delay the execution. There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world; if you want to gain without labor, you have to pay a price. However, sometimes that price can be unimaginably high, as Hu Guanbao learned in his final moments.
