Ink Sticks. Because of it's composition, Chinese ink has it's ability to stand the test of time.
It does not fade like western ink when exposed to light and air.
This is why ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphy still retain their resilience after centuries of display.

AcornPlanet.com bought the whole inventory out from the old maker "Hui SHe Old Hu" Kaiwen Inkstick Factory.
They offer artist inksticks, not as rare collector's items but as materials for current use as with much of their extensive stocks.

It is their hope that, because of their adherance to tradition, you will appreciate, use and enjoy them because of this.

Special care needs to be taken with these high quality inksticks.
Keep them wrapped in some kind of plastic wrapper.
Never expose them or leave them under direct sunlight or leave them in extreme dry conditions.
You can leave them at room emperature in normal humidity with the plastic wrapper on and they shold be OK.

Some of their ink sticks are over 30 years old, they have all been very well kept. But sudden dry air can easily crack them.
If you use them, after grinding, immediately wipe dry and put in their plastic wrapper.
In really old inksticks have hairline cracks on them and this is perfectly normal.

All their inkticks were made for artists use. Not tourist display.
Some are Pure Oil Soot inksticksand they're great for painting.

Some are Premium Pine soot inksticks, the same material as psonyan, and they are superbt for calligraphy.

Hui She Old Hu, Kaiwen is the old old factory that has been making the famous Hui inkstick for thousands of years.
In 1956 the factory was changed over to China's new government managed factory.

In 2001, the c.e.o. who has been with the factory for over 20 years, with some other partners made the first step to buy out the pensions of the retired and unrequired workers, to make the factory much more efficient to continue offering affordable ink sticks and and yet still making the highest quality inksticks for the artists.

The CEO is actually getting paid much less than a regular teacher in the town, but it's credibility and reputation in China, especially among scholars, can not be compared to any other.
He is the Vice Chairman of the "Chinese Four Treasures Study Association", and the same is true of the CEO of Red Star Xuan Paper.
Hui She Old Hu, Kaiwen is a protected brand by the Chinese government now.

It represents the reputation of China.
