Day 18: Stockholm, Sweden - This was a Stockholm food tour day. We started by visiting a couple of well known Swedish food halls, and then ate some more delicious Swedish food. It was an amazing day of visiting Stockholm!
00:25 Swedish breakfast at Courtyard Marriott - The Courtyard Marriott hotel in Stockholm had an impressive display of breakfast foods including plenty of Swedish food in the buffet as well. So we started off the day with breakfast at our hotel before starting off.
5:03 Hötorgshallen Food Hall - After walking around Stockholm for a while and fully enjoying the views of the city and the water, we made our way over to Hötorgshallen Food Hall, one of the Swedish food destinations on this Stockholm food tour day. After contemplating what to eat for a while, I settled on eating at a place called Melanders Fisk that specializes in seafood. Ying had the poached salmon and I had a the dill cured salmon (gravad lax). It was impressively good, the salmon was melt in your mouth tender and it was served with a side of potatoes as well. I also had toast skagen which are shrimp over toast. It’s one of my favorite Swedish foods. Total price - 370 SEK ($43.32)
12:32 Östermalmshallen Food Hall - Another legendary food hall in Stockholm is the gourmet Östermalmshallen Food Hall. It’s been around since 1888, but they’ve been doing renovation on the original market for the last couple years, so it’s a temporary market for now. The market has a lot of similar restaurants and gourmet food stalls as Hötorgshallen, and there’s no shortage of amazing looking food. After walking around for a while, since we had just eaten, I chose to buy some moose sausage, which was pretty good.
15:49 Östermalms Korvspecialist - Next stop on this Stockholm food tour is Östermalms Korvspecialist which is just a short walk from Östermalmshallen Food Hall and they specializes in marevelous sausages. I ordered the kabanoss, a spicy sausage filled into a baguette and seasoned with mustard and sauerkraut. It was a truly delicious sausage, I loved it. Kabanoss - 60 SEK ($7.02)
18:36 Gamla Stan - Gamla Stan is Old Stockholm and it’s filled with narrow medieval lanes, shops and restaurants, and it’s just a great place to walk around and explore. We stopped at the German Church and I just enjoyed the atmosphere and just walking around on foot.
21:44 Nystekt Strömming - When I asked you where to eat in Stockholm, one of the top places I was recommended over and over was Nystekt Strömming, a food stall that specializes in serving Baltic herries. They serve fresh herring, not the notorious Swedish fermented herring. I ordered strömming on rye which came with deep fried herring, mustard, onions, and dill on top. It was awesomely delicious. By this time on this Stockholm food tour day I was getting pretty full. Strömming - 40 SEK ($4.68)
So we ended the day here. It was a wonderful day in Stockholm eating lots of delicious food!
