Director Adam Wong is a filmmaker that I have a lot of time for. In making “The Way We Dance” he managed to revitalised the Hong Kong local film industry with fresh and intriguing ideas about dream, hope and
life. Similarly with a bigger budget and stars, Adam Wong delivers big time with a grounded emotions throughout and touching the audience at every opportunity of purest memories. Wong loves Hong Kong, old and new and it is through this passion you can see his ideas, visions and attitude that in many ways have been lost amount the midst of the systematic Hong Kong society. It is all the more rewarding the best performances came from the younger leads, especially newcomer Cecilia So, while bigger stars Miriam Yeung and Jan Lam oozes with wonderful turns of their own. This is simply the best Hong Kong film of the year, thus far.

Miriam Yeung is always at her best when playing true Hong Kong local persona and here she encapsulate the audience with her sincerity, memories and conviction. Similar to her other great role this year as Headmaster in “Little Big Master”, her crying sequences bring the audience on a journey with her. Jan Lam does well in a serious role with a touch of much needed comic. However, the best performance for to young actress Cecilia So, who is able to an natural acting range beyond her years. There are moments in her eyes that capture the scenes so well that her experience transcends over to our five senses.

All in all, “She Remembers, He Forgets”, is a well produced and innovatively shot film that provide the audience something to simply embrace. There are plenty of subtle moments where the film simply excel. Small quotes like “Hong Kong is a not a city that allows you to dream” to regrets and missed opportunities are all beautiful moments that the audience can clearly relate towards. In creating this film, Adam Wong have once again craved out a message for all of us, keep dreaming, keep hoping and never let the society change who you are. Hong Kong cinema is clearly a much better place with more films like these. (Neo, 2015)
