I love verse. I am quite a big fan of our DashPoet. I write many pieces myself also. But while in Chinetown in London, specifically, Guanghwa, my fave Chinese Art Store, I discovered upstairs they had two superb books. 300 Tang Poems and 300 Song poems. (Tang and Song being Dynasties.)
The Tang poem I have painted a picture to inspired by my small collection of Ox paintings, was written about 300 B.C.
For me, the age of some of these is superb. And that they are not biblical or anything theyre not, is beautiful.
I find much Western verse, early verse, rather over flowered, but these early examples are wonderufl to read because of their innocence and simplicity. Sometimes the ranslatin doesnt quite carry the weight the original held but the main "gist" is caught by the use of our written wording system.
ANyway, I will do a seris of these and some perhaps read them myself.
I hope you enjoy them.
best wishes...
Neil.
