Florescence, or fluorescence? Both are great names for this track! Barely translates the original title well though. The Chinese title 腐草為螢 is inspired by an old saying from ancient China, 季夏三月,腐草為螢 which means "Three months of summer, fireflies rise from the withered grass".
The ancient Chinese had a folk belief that when grass wither in summer, they turn into fireflies, lighting up the deep darkness of the night. This can be seen as a form of transcendence, a higher enlightenment, or simply just a beautiful occasion to behold. But little do we know that in a fleeting 20 days or so, the firefly will die, buried among the withered grass only to await its restoration once again next year. A beautiful sight it is, but how much death and decay does it struggle through just so it could light up our darkness with its tiny little lantern, if only for its brief existence?
Some may say "Florescence" is a tragic story of a firefly's futile struggle to light up our world in its short lifespan, while others may see an inspiring story of a firefly never giving up its journey despite its size, for in the end they know it will always be worth it.
