2017世界棒球經典賽，要求參賽國在10月7號提出50人名單，體育署遵照「先有總教練，才有名單」原則，30號下午宣布，由統一獅總教練郭泰源擔綱，而獅隊球團，也表達支持。
不過，隨後中職聯盟發表新聞稿，指出體育署是「逕行宣布」總教練人選，言下之意結果並非共識，加上「組、訓、賽」分工尚未明確，未來持續考驗體育署協調能力。
